the warm desert environment

I’ve been working on this piece recently. I’ve been spending an hour or so at a time adding and obliterating parts of the composition. I haven’t completely decided if it’s finished. The photo was taken with a higher resolution camera than most of the others on my blog so please zoom in to see fine areas of detail like these:

I’m working on wooden panel, enjoying a resistant surface to sandpaper and hammer nails into.

  1. These are wonderful and inspiring – thanks for stopping by my blog so I could find you. Looking forward to seeing how this and future pieces develop.

  2. I have always had a fascination with maps and place and I think you do something interesting with the intersection of the abstraction of a map and the viscerality of a place. Is there a reason for the light blue palate sky

    1. thankyou Christopher. Yes I’m definitely drawn to the abstract beauty of maps, I collect them from charity shops. Light blue can represent sky or a body of water, as a base colour it lends a sense of cool open space to pieces which can then be challenged.

    1. Hi Chipster2903, I don’t have an online shop/etsy (yet) but if there’s a piece that you’re interested in I could let you know if it’s available and the price including postage and packing. Thanks very much for your compliment!

  3. Hello John – this picture is what drew me here in the first place, so we could always look to that if you like (unless it isn’t finished yet of course!). I have a large Rauschenberg print on my wall so I think it’ll be in good company.

Drop me a line if you like – cpwsmith@live.co.uk

    Thanks!
