Shown as part of Rule Driven at Platform Arts, this video piece comprises photographs of a shape as it repeats in rows, one shape at a time. The audio component comprises layered percussive sounds and field recordings that include radio static and a washing machine fed through multiple effects. As new layers are added new sounds can be heard. When the drawing reaches the fullest point the process reverses until the wall is left blank once more.

The ordered repetition makes visible the process of drawing that follows a set of pre-determined rules, a framework for operation.

John Macormac is a recipient of a Support for the Individual Artist Programme award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Here I broke with recent tradition and drew onto a large sheet of paper. Felt tip pens allow a more precise, clear line than chalk. Looking close, the drawing is full of human error and inaccuracy. This makes it feel somehow alive, less rigid and perfect than a digitally rendered image.

The paper used is 274 x 290 cm. I want to work as large as possible. Please get in touch if you have a spare gable wall or expanse of concrete you’d like me to draw on..

I was pleased to be asked to do a wall drawing in the vault artist studios members’ room, formerly the reception area of Tower Street Belfast Met. Pool table, leather sofa and bespoke bar are out of shot.

I’m not certain it is finished, if I work more layers on it I’ll post up the results.

An old piece of work, from around 2010 when Robert Rauschenberg and Mark Bradford were my work’s biggest influences.

Blue Whale are thrilled to have moved in to Vault Artist Studios, alongside almost 90 other creative practitioners. I did a bit of decorating of the outside of our space tonight.

I recently performed at RESIST in the Menagerie in Belfast- a night that combines sonic art performances and intense, genre spanning DJ sets. I looped electronic drum and synth sounds then overlayed live acoustic drums.

This is the set-up that I used

Here’s a couple of clips of pre show loop experimentation:

I made these two geometric chalk on board pieces as a commission for Art Loves. They are both 110cm squared and to be hung as a diptych.

In August I wrote a blog post about the impending demolition of the Fine Art Department of Ulster University. With the mammoth rebuild due to take place in 2015, some MFA students have been making the most of the condemned Orpheus building by using its makeup for physical and ephemeral play.
