This piece is from a few years ago when I was less confident with colour. I used household gloss and acrylic paint applied at varying thicknesses, then scratched back into the layers. I think parts of it work and display evidence of the ‘struggle.’
Thanks Syncopated Eyeball, yes it’s interesting to look back on old pieces and understand the development of work. Excuse the pretentiousness, but it brings to mind that that Soren Kierkegaard quote, “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”
I find it “works”. But your newer work is much more subtle and restrained. It’s interesting to see the progression.
