I joined several pieces of wood together that I had drilled, hacked and otherwise distressed.
One red lamp and long exposures create the impression of the room being bathed in a red, somehow primordial glow.
The assembled, glowing structure appears like some kind of hive ready to crack open to ooze lava.

Here is another work from my recent series of map based pieces.
I perpetually learn through practice and will often set parameters for each new body of work. Each unique choice is carefully considered; the scale, materials, level of detail and duration that each piece will take to be ‘finished.’ I recognise the value in, and allow myself to work intuitively. This piece uses conté crayon and emulsion paint on canvas, compulsively layered to create results that are both complex and delicate. The image exists as a liminal topography of dreamlike lands.

I’ve been continue to play with making images on Photoshop, using elements cut from old photographs and diagrams. I often invert and tint the colours. I am drawn to the mysterious and ghostly atmosphere in many of these old images. Stains and blemishes are welcome. It’s a pleasure to add a fortress to a lakeside, make an inverted head float in mid air or fuse two disparate landscapes.
